Klassikkona pidetään Don Siegelin ohjaamaa 50-luvulla tehtyä alkuperäisfilmatisaatiota ja vielä astetta terävämpänä Philip Kaufmanin 70-luvun lopussa ohjaamaa uusintafilmatisointia. Ferraran Body Snatcherin tapahtumat on siirretty sotilastukikohtaan. Se tuo tunnelmaltaan mieleen Stephen Kingin The Stand filmatisoinnin alkumetrit. Tarinan siirtäminen militaariseen atmosfääriin on tekijöiltään tietenkin harkittu veto. Samalla tavalla kuin Body Snatchersit jäytävät ihmisen persoonallisuuden tietämättömiin, niin myös armeija kohtelee yksilöitä, tasapäistäen heidät homogeeniseksi liikkuvaksi massaksi, joka tunnetaan sotilastermein joukkoyksikkönä. Tämä on Ferraralta ja käsikirjoitustiimiltä hieno oivallus ja jo tämän vuoksi uuden version filmaaminen on perusteltu päätös.
