Sota ei kuitenkaan ole ohi, ja vaikka Max ja Marianne pääsevät pois vihollisten luota, ei sodan armottomuus kuitenkaan jätä heitä rauhaan. Maxin saadessa V-osastolta vaikean tehtävän, alkaa pariskunnan liitto rakoilla. Kysymys kuuluu: voiko koulutettuun valehtelijaan luottaa edes silloin, kun on naimisissa tämän kanssa?
