Albert Stark on lammasfarmari ja suuri pelkuri. Juuri jälkimmäisen ominaisuuden vuoksi hän on kyennyt selviämään hengissä villiäkin hurjemmassa lännessä. Väärään maailmaan syntynyt Albert on kurkkua myöten täynnä villiä länttä, jossa minä tahansa hetkenä voi kuolla joko väkivallan, taudin tai jonkun epämääräisen sattuman oikusta. Pelkurimaisuudesta on siis kiistatonta hyötyä, mutta se ei paimenen tyttöystävälle riitä. Nainen jättää paimenen viiksekkään naistenmiehen vuoksi ja kimmastunut Albert haastaa viiksivallun kaksintaisteluun - vaikkei osaa edes ampua. Kaupunkiin saapunut mystinen kaunotar, Anna, haluaa auttaa Albertia ja opettaa hänet ampumaan. Samalla parivaljakon tunteet toisiaan kohtaan syvenevät. Onni ei ole kuitenkaan pysyvää, sillä pelottava Clinch Leatherwood saapuu kaupunkiin haastamaan riitaa. Odotettavissa onkin taas yksi välienselvittely.
