Lukioikäinen Quentin on ollut umpirakastunut naapurin tyttö Margoon. Koulun kapinallisena tunnettu Margo ei kuitenkaan kiinnitä hiljaiseen Quentiniin mitään huomiota. Eräänä yönä Margo yllättäen tarvitsee Quentinin apua. Kun Margo yllättäen katoaa kotoaan heidän erikoisen ja vähän romanttisenkin yöllisen seikkailuretkensä jälkeen, hän jättää jälkeensä mystisiä vihjeitä, joita Quentin alkaa ratkoa.
