Liha-alan perheyrityksessä työskentelevä David Wozniak on tehnyt aikanaan rahapulassa ennätysmäärän luovutuksia spermapankkiin ja kuulee nyt olevansa yli 500 lapsen biologinen isä. Lapset ovat nostaneet siviilikanteen spermapankkia vastaan saadakseen tietää, kuka salanimellä "Starbuck" esiintynyt David oikeasti on. David ei halua paljastaa henkilöllisyyttään, mutta ryhtyy silti seuraamaan etäältä lukuisten lastensa elämää. Todellisuudessa Percy on merenjumala Poseidonin poika, mikä selvisi hänelle edellisessä elokuvassa. Tällä kertaa urhoollinen ja nokkela Percy yrittää pelastaa Puoliveristen kesäleirin antiikin hirviöiden kynsistä. Pelastamiseen tarvitaan taikaesine, joka on ollut kadoksissa satoja vuosia. Eikä ihme, sillä löytääkseen taikaesineen täytyy ensin ylittää Hirviöidenmeri. Se sama, jonka halki historian sankarit Odysseuksesta alkaen ovat joutuneet purjehtimaan.

Dustya ei kuitenkaan ole tehty kilpuriksi – ja kaiken kukkuraksi hän sattuu pelkäämään korkeita paikkoja. Niinpä hän pyytää avukseen vanhan sotilaslentokoneen Kipparin, joka opettaa hänelle muutaman niksin, joiden avulla Dusty voi haastaa hallitsevan mestarin.
