The animals escape from their homes and the owners go looking for them. In the streets they hear the voices of past revolutions and wonder if a new world can grow at this moment.

An inventive examination of the legacy of the 1990s: In his experimental short film, Ben Young portrays the figure of the then U.S. president – whom he is said to have met once in person in Louisville, Kentucky – as a foil for the questionable political developments, the beginnings of a globalised world and a society marked by collective amnesia. The director’s intelligent, witty and very personal reckoning with Bill Clinton.

Then there are moments when you have to hide and you only get 15 seconds. Eeny, meeny, miny, moe, lose a life if you’re too slow. Set in Crossings Republik—a sub-city, neither urban nor rural, on the fringes of New Delhi—Did You Do It? explores the dynamics between natural resources and human intervention. Director Aditi Bhande moved to this ‘integrated city project’ with her family last year. After days of commuting to Delhi through a landscape of farms, high-rises, villages, factories and the polluted Hindon river, she reached an epiphany of horror. Where did the water to grow the food she ate come from? Where did the garbage she threw out go, and where did it end up? How was her everyday reality connected to the wider one around her?

The scratched and faded – and at times almost abstracted – home movies that pass through the projector in Tetsuya Maruyama's "Shashin no Ma" simultaneously welcome and resist nostalgia, in what is both a meditation on the physical nature of the analogue film strip and the ghosts that reside within it as well as a poignant tribute by an artist-filmmaker son to his amateur-filmmaker father.
