Cette série raconte l'histoire d'un jeune garçon, Jake Long, qui descend par sa mère d'une famille de dragons. En conséquence, il a lui-même hérité de la faculté de se transformer à volonté, partiellement ou entièrement, en un dragon, avec toutes les capacités liées à la créature. Son grand-père maternel et sa sœur possèdent eux aussi cette faculté, contrairement à son père, qui ignore que sa famille est principalement composée de reptiles magiques, et à sa mère (pour laquelle les pouvoirs de dragons ont sauté une génération), qui en revanche le sait et cherche à le cacher à son mari. En tant que Dragon, Jake a pour rôle de défendre son territoire (entre autres, l'Amérique) et toutes les créatures magiques qui y vivent secrètement contre d'éventuelles menaces, notamment des chasseurs (dont certaine d'entre eux est Rose, la petite amie de Jake). Il est à cette fin entraîné par son grand-père.

De par son passé de délinquant (motard bōsōzoku) et les difficultés qu'il a rencontrées pour arriver à la position qu'il occupe actuellement, il lui vient une idée qui semble incroyable aux enseignants de l'établissement : envoyer cinq étudiants à l'université la plus prestigieuse du Japon, l'université de Tokyo, surnommée Todai. Il va pour cela constituer une classe préparatoire spéciale comprenant des élèves qui étaient destinés à un avenir sombre et, grâce à des méthodes d'enseignement particulières, essayer de relancer sa carrière et par la même occasion sauver le lycée.

Starved is an FX Network television situation comedy that aired for one season of seven episodes in 2005. The series was about four friends who each suffer from eating disorders, who met at a "shame-based" support group called Belt Tighteners. Its characters included those with bulimia, anorexia, and binge eating disorder. Eric Schaeffer created the show as well as writing, starring in and directing it, based upon his own struggle with eating disorders. In addition to his own life experiences, Schaeffer also drew upon the experiences of the other members of the principal cast, each of whom coincidentally had struggled with food issues of their own. Starved was the lead-in of FX's hour-long "Other Side of Comedy" block with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. FX executives wanted to use the two series to begin building comedy programming and broaden the network's demographic. The series debuted on August 4, 2005 to poor critical reviews and was cancelled in October 2005, when FX picked Sunny over Starved for renewal.
