The series was filmed in North Vancouver and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Based on characters from the Leatherstocking Tales, a set of novels written by James Fenimore Cooper, the series takes place in 1755 Hudson Valley, New York during the French and Indian War. It follows the main character, Natty Bumppo, his Native American companion Chingachgook, trading post owner Elizabeth Shields and other people stationed at or living in the vicinity of Fort Bennington.

Quigley arriva al ranch portandosi dietro una prostituta (Cora), da lui difesa al porto contro tre uomini (per puro caso proprio quelli che Marston gli ha mandato in contro). A destinazione, il lavoro da svolgere non va affatto a genio al nuovo arrivato: avviene uno scontro con il ranchero e i suoi fidi e costui fa abbandonare in pieno deserto Quigley e la donna, che gli si è subito attaccata chiamandolo Roy (il nome del marito che l'ha lasciata in America spedendola in Australia, dopo che essa, nel corso di un attacco degli indiani, aveva fatto morire il bambino). Mentre gli aborigeni salvano i due nel deserto e li assistono, Marston comincia a inviare alcuni dei suoi per uccidere Quigley e Cora.

Non si tratta però di un ritorno pacifico. Fare vestiti per gli abitanti di Dungatar è solo un modo per iniziare a scoprire cosa ci sia nel suo passato, cosa abbia fatto impazzire sua madre, perché ancora venga insultata e in ultima analisi, vendicarsi.
