Roumanian born conductor, Sergiu Celibidache (1912-1996) refused to record any of his performances. This documentary tries to provide some insight into the character of this man, allowing the viewer to come to their own conclusion about whether the man was a megalomanic or guru. Music includes: Mozart quartet in D minor (K, 421); symphony in C major, 'Jupiter' (K, 551); requiem in D minor (K, 626). Also, Haydn symphony no. 92 in G major 'Oxford', Beethoven quartet in D major, op. 18, no. 3; Schubert symphony #5 in B flat major, Bruckner symphony #9 in D minor and, finally, Bartok concerto for orchestra.

Tolla is an unemployed translator whose wife is leaving him. Despondent and weak, he submits to the suggestion of an acquaintance to have a contract placed on the man that his wife is seeing. Instead, however, he arranges for the hit to be placed on himself. Before the contract is executed, he develops a relationship with a prostitute, and then changes his mind. In order to survive he takes the obvious course of action, which turns out to have possibly been unnecessary, and then he must deal with the guilt.

In the midst of WW I, a doctor and a lawyer team up to turn a ramshackle old mountain chateau into a sanatorium/health spa that caters to the afflicted from most every stratum of European society, most of whom show up with false hope in their hearts and plenty of equally false identities. Even the proprietors have a few deceptions, chief among them is the part of the resort where they provide shelter for dying and horribly maimed soldiers. Still the atmosphere of this high-class convalescent home is that of great gentility that thinly disguises the seaminess of the guests' secret activities. Though much of the film is a quirky comedy, tragedy comes creeping in when people begin dying of unnatural causes, and not even the pure mountain air can save the owners and the residents.

Local gift shop owner Marinette gives the Spaniard a lift. Their mutual attraction manifests itself quickly, and Paco, who was fired over the stolen-car episode, hangs around. When he happens to spot Nino in the same town, he beats up the scrawny Russian, who lands in the hospital. Oddly enough, this marks the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Argentina: 1969: Major Molina has been sent to a military outpost in southern Patagonia to investigate the brutal murder of soldier Lito. Gradually comes to light that Lito was drugged by a fellow, Reppeto, and therefore was unable to participate in an unexpected military exercise at night. For his "disobedience", Lito was beaten to death. Molina seeks justice, aided by the deceased's family and the village priest. However, he is forced to abandon the case when the military forces take the power in Buenos Aires. Years later, with democracy finally restored in Argentina, the case will be reopened causing the abolition of military service and the military justice system.

Criticabile sotto vari aspetti (disinvolta mescolanza di vero e falso, documentario e finzione; dichiarazioni di uomini politici, pescate negli archivi; ricorso all'“Adagio” di Albinoni, troppo “bello”, troppo usato, dunque quasi “osceno”), ma impossibile negare che funzioni sul piano dell'informazione, della comunicazione, dell'emozione. Esplicita denuncia dell'ignavia dell'ONU, delle vergogne della politica europea, dell'indifferenza comoda di tanti di noi in Europa. Meglio la 1ª parte che la 2ª.

Diventa loro complice la studentessa Georgie (K. Beckinsale), di nobile famiglia decaduta, alla vigilia di un indesiderato matrimonio con un uomo d'affari. Lo fa per due motivi: salvare la sede di una comunità di handicappati che ospita il suo fratellino down e l'attrazione che prova per i due simpatici imbroglioni. Scritta dal regista con Richard Holmes, ha “un ritmo che nei momenti più felici ha veramente il battito scanzonato e convulso del migliore rock britannico” (Giacomo Manzoli) e l'energia delle vecchie commedie di Ealing. Il continuo rilancio di meccanismi truffaldini sempre più sofisticati non arriva sempre al bersaglio, ma i tre giovani interpreti irradiano bravura e simpatia. Sottovalutato.
