Voor Tobias (Felix Osinga) komt Mees Kees (Willem Voogd), de nieuwe invaller op school, precies op tijd. Door de juf werd hij om niets de klas uitgestuurd. Ook kreeg hij vaak strafwerk. Raar, want Tobias is namelijk best slim, heel vrolijk en super grappig. Mees Kees geeft heel anders les dan de juf. Dat is omdat hij nog stagiair is. Gelukkig helpen de kinderen hem met lesgeven. Zo mogen ze boterhammen eten in de klas in het kader van een voedselproject en zetten ze met rekenen de tafels op z’n kop. Al bloeit Tobias door de aanwezigheid van Mees Kees op, Kees merkt dat er iets met Tobias is. Hij heeft nooit brood mee bijvoorbeeld. Dat komt omdat zijn vader dee-oo-oo-dee is en zijn moeder de hele dag in bed ligt. Mees Kees ontfermt zich over Tobias. Hij deelt zijn boterhammen met het heerlijke omeletje van zijn moeder met hem, neemt Tobias mee uit flipperen en laat hem gezellig ‘nablijven’. De strenge directrice Dreus (Sanne Wallis de Vries) vindt het maar niets…
