Er komt een kaboutercircus naar het kabouterbos van Plop. Wanneer de circus stoet door het bos rijdt, valt er een mandje van één van de trailers. Niet veel later ontdekt Kabouter Lui het mandje, waar een kleine kabouterbaby in ligt. Lui is meteen dol op de kleine babyclown en neemt hem mee naar zijn kaboutervrienden. Maar zij zijn druk bezig en hebben weinig aandacht voor Lui. Hij besluit daarom in het geheim voor de baby te zorgen. Dit gaat alleen niet zonder slag of stoot en Lui blijkt niet bepaald de ideale vader. Ondertussen is Plop bezig met het voorbereiden van een koekenbakwedstrijd. Hij wil namelijk kans maken op de titel Fijnproefkabouter, door de allerlekkerste Plopkoek te bakken. De proefkabouter komt naar het kabouterbos om alle koeken te proeven en de beste koekenbakker te belonen met deze titel.
